Beer Scouts Win Gold - 13-12-2011
History was made at a presentation at Beer Scout Hut. Family and friends joined the scouts to watch a few young people gain the highest award in that can be gained in the scout section - The Chief scout Gold award.
For the first time in the 99 year history of Beer Scout Group that the award was presented to girls - Imogen Lewis aged 13 ½ and Pippa Groves aged 13 ½ being the hard working recipients.
The awards were presented by Mr Derek Marriott, one of the district senior scout leaders and friend of the group.
In making the award, Mr Marriott said "It's brilliant to see young people of today making a commitment to Scouting" he went on to tell the Scouts you are proof that you can, "Go Out and You Can Do It When You Work Hard"
This year in total four members of the group gained this award. Jasper Dommett aged 14 was present his award earlier in the year at Exeter Scout gangshow, just after moving up to Axe Air Explorers. Douglas Izzard aged 14 was presented his award at Remembrance Parade with the whole of Beer scout group and Axe Air explorer unit present.
Nigel Groves Group Scout Leader praised the Scouts who earned the Chief Scout Gold Award saying "you have to be dedicated as it this award is ongoing from when you join Scouts and is the end result of your hard work, congratulations to you all"
To gain this award the Scouts must undertake some of the following tasks.
It is gained by completing:
- The Promise Challenge
- The Community Challenge
- The Fitness Challenge
- The Creative Challenge
- The Global Challenge
- The Outdoor Challenge
Two of the following:
- The Outdoor Plus Challenge
- The Adventure Challenge
- The Expedition Challenge
