| DEVON MINI JAMBOREE (Run to the Fun) Torbay
22nd—25th May 2009 | |
Last years jamboree was a fantastic success, all the people spoken to had a life changing experience. The next Jamboree is in 2011 in Sweden. Although it seems ages away, we are trying to plan a head. We have decided to hold a mini jamboree next year.
The camp will be held on the bank holiday weekend of 22 to 25 May 2009 in the Torbay area. The camp will be open to all Explorer. We are also opening the camp to Scouts who will be eligible to attend the Swedish Jamboree.
We understand this is in the period when revision and exams are present but it is the first weekend of the half term and a weekend away from revision may be what you need to revive the batteries. The weekend will be run like a Jamboree and we will have different zones which participants will visit, this will be Splash, Adventure, Challenge and Chill. We will also arranging to carry out a community project for participants.
The aim of the weekend if for you, to find out as much as possible about the Swedish Jamboree, as well as meeting the other people who may be going. The week end will allow you to take part in activities as well as giving you time to chill out and make new friends.
The County will be holding the camping permit for the event so it is an excellent opportunity for all young people to attend, Units and groups can attend together or we will accept applications from individuals.
The sort of activities we are trying to organise are as follows: Climbing, caving, Kayaking, sailing, rafting, As well as Young Leaders modules and many other activities you can dip in and out of.
The weekend will be fantastic, and allow all possible participants to get together and get first hand information about this opportunity of a life time of going to Sweden and taking part in a life changing experience. A world jamboree only comes round every 4 years so this is probably the only chance these eligible young people will have of attending .
The team is busy setting up the event and have booked sites and other facilities on your behalf, we need you to put the weekend into the Districts and groups Diary so that all eligible people have the opportunity to attend this camp.
To make the weekend relevant we are setting up a scrutiny committee to ensure we arrange, what you the participants want, if you have been to a jamboree and wish to be part of this please contact either: Andy Ellis on:
