Adult Recruitment

Ideas for looking for adult help or potential leaders

Rotas

  • Younger sections tend to use parent rotas, which often end up being mums
  • Try to get other people involved in the rota
  • Grandparents
  • Older Scouts
  • Ranger Guides / Young leaders
  • Friends from work / other social activities
  • Millennium Volunteers
  • Duke of Edinburgh service persons

Positive Messages

Send out positive messages about the group - do it while the group is thriving Try to get positive messages into the press about the group - with a little add on that says 'if you are interested in joining the leadership team'

Who Can I Work With

Within the leadership team - look for potential leaders / helpers that you can work with.
It might be a parent that always offers
It might be from a wider circle of colleagues

Young Person Induction Pack

Make the young person and the new parent feel like part of the group
Include information about the group
Welcome message from GSL / Leader
Contact names, addresses and phone numbers for leaders
Diary of events / fund raising
A section that the parents have to return that tell us about the young person and a bit about them and their hobbies
Confidential Enquiry Form

If You Ask

Always ask them to do something specific -
Ask them directly - face to face
If they say YES - Great
If they say I have to check my diary - Get back to them
If they say NO - re think the plan

Try The Six Step Approach

List the job details
Describe the ideal person
Identify sources of potential volunteers
Target the best choice
Ask them
Follow up if they say yes - (or no)
