Walkham Valley Scout Group Campsite

General description

 

The site is an enclosed, fairly level, sheltered grassed field, within short walking distance of local shops, bus stop and open common land. It will accommodate groups up to approximately 50 camping.

 

Location

 Located within the village of Yelverton, Devon near the roundabout junction of the A386 (Plymouth / Tavistock Rd) with the B3212 Princetown Rd.Map Grid Ref SX 521 677. 

Facilities on-site 

The facilities on-site are basic and will require a green / brown field permit holder to authorise camps.

 §  Drinking water from outside tap.
  • Enclosed section for fires, including campfire area with seating.
  • Flagpole in centre of field.
  • Second part to the field could be available by arrangement, which would double the available area for activities / larger camps etc.
  • Adjacent to camp entrance is a sewage disposal point (Manhole cover) for black waste.
  • Vehicle access via service lane to camp field.
  • Public car park adjacent the site. Please note charges now apply during day time.
 

Off site facilities

 

 §  Local shops (including small supermarket, butchers, grocers, garage supplying calor gas, post office with cash point and mobile top up point), doctors and dentist are within 5 minutes walking.
§  Bus stop with regular services every 15 mins to Tavistock and Plymouth. There is also a less frequent bus to Princetown, on Dartmoor, if you wish to go hiking (this is terrain zero with some terrain one areas).
§  Open common ground is within 5 minutes walk and extends beyond 5 miles in length ideal for safe easy walks and activities.
§  National cycle route 27 is close by, allow cycling on dedicated routes between Plymouth and Tavistock or further if required (Yelverton to Tavistock currently under construction). See website ref Drake Trial - http://www.drakestrail.co.uk/
§  Local churches include C of E adjacent to site & both Roman Catholic and Methodist in the village.
