Scouts do 1 thing on Founder's Day
Today Scouting celebrates the birth of our founder, Robert Baden-Powell. And now is the perfect time to reflect on the scout promise, particularly when it comes to 'helping other people.'

Scouting supporters reconnect
Over 150 people gathered for our first ever event to bring together Scouting supporters.

ALLOTMENT ANTICS 2011

For the second year running, Allotment Antics was held at Cowick Lane in Exeter. This site gives a fine view over the city and its' proximity to the Cowick Barton Inn is exemplary.

The evening gave an opportunity for the green and not so green fingered to congregate, discuss vegetable sucesses/failures, share tips and pit their various producing skills.

The 'growing' challenge was to produce the plate of radishes that the judge would most like to take home.

Judging criteria included shape, colour, uniformity and quality of presentation china! Sadly this has been a poor summer for radishes in Exeter and entry numbers were depleted from last years record.Thankfully there were two entries to test the judge's skill and this section was a close contest.

In conjunction with the radish test, two baking challenges were run, namely sweet and  savoury breads. Many weeks of scouring recipe books and testing weird concoctions ensued and the evening saw a table groaning with entries.

Various cheeses, jams and pickles were on hand to assist with the tasting.
Each bread was sampled by those present who then selected their top three. Some numberwang was used to determine the winners.

We were very grateful to have John Jarvis (DCC) who attended as County representative. Not only did it provide someone to present the priceless trophies (recycled from a local charity shop and adorned with sticky labels) but most importantly he came equipped with home made strawberry jam.

The evening ended in the Cowick Barton and having been deemed a success will be on the calendar again next year.
