CONGRATULATIONS to the young people who were awarded their Gold DOE on Saturday 7th January at Devon County Councils Council Chamber by the Lord Lieutenant of Devon, the ceremony was to mark the hard work of the Young People. 21 of the 100 people who achieved the award in Devon were members of Devon Scout Association,  over 20% of all the awards, this is a fantastic result showing all the hard work they put in to reach the award, during the ceremony we heard about some of the fantastic trips the young people went on, including to Kenya to help teach children English, bell ringing, football refereeing and wine/Cider developing, obviously not drinking due POR.

Well done to all. i know many of them have undertaken the little bit extra and earned the Queen Scout Award,

Explorer’s from East Devon attended the fantastic PGL camp at Liddington, Swindon at the beginning of December, this weekend was a fast mixture of events and activities and lived up to the Young People expectations, The weekend saw the East Devon Explorers camp and work with over150 Explorer’s from all over Oxford. The Oxford Explorers had set up and planned the weekend and in true scouting tradition the Devon Explorers were given a warm welcome on a cold weekend. The Devon Explorers said “It was good to mix with the Explorer from Oxford and we had a brilliant weekend”. During the weekend all the Explorers took part in Giant Swings, Zip Wire, Fencing, Crate Building, Aeroball, plus silly things like Football on Space Hoppers, Making Gloop with Cornflour and Water and then walking on it without sinking, as well as icing doughnuts and eating them.

The Saturday evening saw some weird and wonderful costumes being made from a selection of items collected and given to them, the evening ended with the true delights of Explorer’s singing, dancing and joke telling, if you know what I mean. Roll on next year.

Explorers are one of the newest sections, they were formed at the request of the young people who were leaving the movement, the new section has stopped the drain and we have grown as a county over the last 6 years, there are over 650 explorers in Devon.

The idea of the explorers being a district unit is so the leaders can help arrange the activities that the Explorers was to take part in, it is difficult with only 6 or 7 but with 20 or 40 the opportunities are endless. Most of the ideas for activities should come from the young people and the leaders help organise.

This year is the 10th year of Explorers and we are busy setting up and all night party in october, music and fun all the way, watch out for details.

Denmark 2012

Young Leaders Training Course

It's back by popular demand. Look out for details on the next training weekend being held 9th - 11th  March at Nine Ashes in Cornwall. It has grown that many we have had to move, This camp fills quickly. Find out more details

This is your opportunity to attend some of them modules that perhaps the district dont organise or perhaps for leaders see how other leaders run the training sessions. I look foreward to seeing all the devoted young people again and from the interest a lot of new ones.

During the weekend we will hold workshops and fact finding meetings to see how Explorers is going in your district and pass the information up to HQ.
