World Jamboree
The 22nd World Scout Jamboree is almost here!
The 22nd World Scout Jamboree takes place in Sweden this summer, with more than 30,000 Scouts from across the globe it will certainly be an event to remember! After a testing selection weekend the 90 Explorers and Scouts who turned up were narrowed down to the incredibly lucky 36 people who'd be accompanying the leaders to Sweden.
A huge contingent, of 4,444 people from the UK will be flying to the Jamboree this summer. The whole experience will begin with a few days in Copenhagen, Denmark where the contingent will meet up. It's then off to the Jamboree site in Rinkaby, Sweden for thirteen nights, where we'll be partaking in a massive range of activities, from water sports to global awareness challenges, music to climbing, and everything in between. This will then be followed by five days in Holland for the Devon Unit- This is known as HoHo, home hospitality, and each unit from all over the United Kingdom will go to different countries, and different parts of those countries to stay with Scouting families there.
The Team
We are being taken to the Jamboree by four fantastic, but slightly mad, leaders from various districts of Devon. Unit leader Kate Taylor, from North Devon, aided by very able assistant leaders; Julian Rogers and Chris John, Plympton & Ivybridge, and finally, James Littlejohns, Torridge district. The Unit they're taking has representatives from all the districts in Devon, and to see what we're up to on our roller coaster of a journey, from selection right through to updates live from the Jamboree keep checking our blog!
