Manager & Supporter. Skills of Management
Skills of Management is one of the Manager & Supporter Skills courses and provides managers and supporters with the skills and tools to manage and support their teams within Scouting.
What we cover on the course.
Course criteria
- Describe their preferred leadership style and explain how it impacts on how they work with others.
- Demonstrate how to adapt their leadership style as appropriate to different situations in Scouting.
- Apply effective and appropriate communication techniques to meet the needs of the intended audience.
- Use active listening techniques and provide constructive feedback.
- Carry out effective reviews with team members.
- Apply basic coaching techniques and work with others to identify and develop their potential in Scouting.
- Motivate individuals within a team.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses in their team and how to build upon these.
- Facilitate team development.
- Plan and run effective meetings.
- Facilitate constructive communication and discussion.
- Plan and manage effective inductions.
- Apply effective learning and relationship building.
- Identify steps to implement their personal action plan.
Before the course.
As this is an intensive course, we ask all participants to review the Independent Learning Units as pre-course learning but only if relevant to your role. This is particularly important if have no practical management experience. Click below to find out more information:

About the course.
This F2F course will be run at the Exeter Court Hotel, Kennford. (See map at the bottom of the page).
The one-day course has been developed by combining key aspects from the original two-day course. Sessions start at 09.30 and will consist of interactive whole group learning sessions, small group work & individual reflection. All sessions throughout the day will be supported by group facilitators and trainers.
A small amount of homework will need to be completed after the course.
Lunch and all refreshments will be provided, please ensure you advise of any allergies on the booking form.
