Manager & Supporter. Meeting the Challenges

Meeting the Challenges is one of the Manager & Supporter Skills courses and provides managers and supporters with the skills and tools to manage and support their teams within Scouting.

What we cover on the course.


Course criteria

  • Identify causes of conflict and define appropriate strategies to resolve it.
  • Apply The Scout Association’s dispute, suspension and complaints procedures in an effective manner to real situations.
  • Apply The Scout Association’s safeguarding procedures to real situations.
  • Carry out challenging reviews.
  • Prioritise the different challenges faced in their role.
  • Identify steps to implement their personal action plan.

Before the course.

Independent Learning


The following Independent Learning Units are recommended as pre-course learning but only if relevant to your role:

  • Getting the Word Out
  • Dealing with Difficult Situations
  • Enabling Change
  • Financial and Physical Resources
  • Decision Making

About the course.

This F2F course will be run at Teignbridge District HQ, Newton Abbot. (See map at the bottom of the page).

This is a one-day course and sessions start at 09.30 and will consist of interactive whole group learning sessions, small group work & individual reflection. All sessions throughout the day will be supported by group facilitators and trainers.

A small amount of homework will need to be completed after the course.

Refreshments will be provided, please bring your own lunch!

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
